175_14a Columbia Icefield
The Athabasca Glacier is one of the six principle "toes" of the icefield.
The icefield covers an area of about 325 sq.km. (which is about half its 19th century area) and sometimes reaches a depth of 350 meters.
Athabasca is the Cree Indian name for "where there are reeds." Didn't see any reeds in this neighborhood (the name originally referred to Lake Athabasca).
