Ampex - Reading - July 1979 - Victory is So Sweet
That is me holding the trophy. I was captain of the Ampex EAME (Europe,Africa,Middle East Team) that had just beaten the Ampex Great Britain Ltd side captained by the glum looking bearded bloke in the front, my mate Allan Parrish. My record as captain in this fixture was 3-1 but it is the single defeat that most people remember me for as my only over in that game went for 27 runs. I was amazed they asked me to play the following year let alone captain the side.
The cast of reprobates from left to right is as follows: top, Stephen Lee, Neil Burtenshaw, Me, Sorry can't remember, Trevor Sales, Ray Lawler (Esther's boss), bottom, Ken Philcox, Ken Baxter (My boss), Allan Parrish, sorry, John Phipps.
Working for Ampex was the most fun I had at any of my jobs. Great people, great atmosphere and an exciting time for me as I got to travel a lot of Europe and the Middle East and I met my wife there as well. You can't ask for much more than that.
