Col. Joe Hoffman presented with Guard Eagle Award

Major Gen. Terry Nesbitt (left), Georgia’s Adjutant General, presents Col. Joe Hoffman with the National Guard Eagle Award during an informal farewell ceremony on the eve of Hoffman’s transfer to the active Army’s Schoefield Barracks, on the island of Oahu, Hawaii and into a new job.

Hoffman, who’s spent 22 of his 30-year military career as an Army Guardsman, is the new U.S. Army Pacific Command provost marshal and “top cop” for all the Pacific Rim.

“After the many years you’ve given this organization and the Army, having done three combat tours, and the countless times you’ve not just done what was asked but stepped up and volunteered for more,” said Nesbitt, “It’s time for a break, and this new assignment is well-deserved.”

While there will be challenges for him, he knows Hoffman will take them on and succeed, he added. (Below)

Hoffman, who lives in Duluth, has been back only a short time after spending a year in Afghanistan with Combined Joint Task Force Phoenix, thanked friends, family and fellow Soldiers who came to offer their congratulations and goodbyes for their friendship, for their respect and in the case of his comrades-in-arms, their mentorship.
