Captain Robert Harris holds his 1-year-old daughter after yearlong deployent to Afghanistan
HUNTER AIRFIELD, Savannah, Ga., March 21, 2010 – Captain Robert Harris, who commands Savannah’s Battery B, 1st Battalion, 118 Field Artillery, holds his 1-year-old daughter, Sara, and his wife, Amy, after returning from serving in Afghanistan for the past year. Harris, who lives in Savannah, is among more than 120 citizen Soldiers of Georgia’s 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT) who spent that year supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. The brigade’s mission was to train and mentor the Afghan National army and Afghan National Police. For some members of the 48th, though, that mission changed to one of “full spectrum operations”, whereby they and their Afghan counterparts took the fight directly to the Taliban. Now that they’re home, it will take Harris and his fellow Guardsmen about two weeks to be released from active duty and return to traditional Guard status.
