Georgia Guard helps Afghans access public radio

SHINWAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Searching for a the new Shinwar district radio station a young Afghan, with the help of an Afghan Border Police officer, manipulates the dial of a hand-cranked radio distributed by Afghan national and coalition security forces. The radios and new radio station are part of a media information initiative sponsored by the International Security Assistance Force’s [ISAF] counterinsurgency program. Georgia Army National Guardsmen of 1st Squadron, 108th Cavalry Regiment, Task Force Mountain Warrior have opened two stations in the Muhmand Dara and Shinwar provinces to give the people of those regions a ‘voice’ in their security and to counter anti-Taliban propaganda.
