Fort Macleod's Anonymous
Most of the photographs in this album are shot in the community of Fort Macleod, Alberta, in the late 1940s. The donor purchased the photos at a garage sale in Pincher Creek. We do not know who these people, photographers, or circumstances are!

A photograph becomes an important historical record only when we know something about it: when and where the picture was taken, who is in the picture, who the photographer was, what the circumstances were. If this vital information (or context) is missing, a photo has little value – it cannot link us to persons and events or be used as historical evidence.

This is why the Galt Archives needs your help. We ask you to look through these images and tell us as much as you can about the people and places. You can do it by emailing the archives at archives@galtmuseum.com or leaving a comment here on Flickr. Please include your name and tell us where your knowledge comes from – personal memories, local history research, or grandpa’s tips. Please share your knowledge and help us reclaim your community’s history!

* The CAPITALIZED text in the descriptions was copied from the envelopes in which the negatives were found.
