Union Case, 1860s (closed)

Hinged cases like this one were the first objects to be molded from 1856 in a then new molding material: Shellac, molded in USA by Littlefield, Parson's & Co. The material was used to mold many small objects like brushes and hand mirrors, jewelry, decorative objects and, most important, gramophone records from 1897. To see what these cases kept, go to the previous image.
