Horn is an animal tissue basically composed of the polymeric protein keratin, with plastic characteristics, been thus considered one of the natural plastics. Its plastic properties are known for many centuries and it had many uses, carved or molded. The horn molding and carving industry was well established as a trade in the 12th century in England.

Horn combs have a long tradition, brought to the Americas. These combs were made in Brazil by Sander, an factory started in 1925 and still producing and exporting. They were bought between the 80s and last year.
