2008 Xin Chao Vietnam
Born from a french mother and a vietnamese father, i grew up in the 1970's Champagne area, on the beetroot side. I have a lot of cousins, and french relatives i always was in contact with.
I discovered that i had family on the other part in the late 1980's when Ba Noï (my vietnamese grandmother) came to France.
Later again, in the 2000's i finally met some of my vietnamese cousins from Vietnam. Kim Nya, and her families.

I think i have always wanted to go and see Vietnam. Just like that : go and see. And as the years went by, the idea of traveling there became a Graal. Because there was always something somehow, problem or opportunity, i regularly had to postpond this long awaited and expected trip. In 2008, i decided to take a risk. And i took a loan. I bought a ticket with it and finally would attend Vietnam in a few months. I choosed the date of my birthday for landing in Hanoi : 9th of october.

The following weeks were happy and very busy. I was working on archives, new pieces for a next exhibition and preparing a great argentic lab session. Suddenly, on a rainy and cold morning, the 7th of august, everything changed in a flash.
A rare lightning bolt found its way to the fuses in my argentic lab and burned the place down. It had taken me three years to build the studio up and it took only two months to take everything out. I just finished a few hours before my flight.

I landed in Hanoi after twelve hours in the clouds. It was six o'clock in the morning and i felt very far from everything.
Just go and see.

I went through Hanoi, Hoa Binh, Mai Chau, Son La, Tuan Giao, Dien Bien Phu, Lai Chau, Sapa, Ha Long, Cat Ba, Hue, Hoi An, Nha Trang, Vinh long, Can Tho, Chaudoc, Saigon.

More to see soon.
