red necked grebe
Rare Bird!!! Red-Necked Grebe.
These birds are rather interesting in their habits. They breed in western Canada, Alaska, and very small part of the Central Northern states. they winter in either large bodies of water or the oceans, and they only migrate at night, over land. This one has been hanging out in Ellis Bay of Riverlands Migratory Bird Scantuary for the past few days and I was luckiy enough to locate it, and have ti come close for pictures. In between its dives I would run up or down some rocks, which im sure was amusing to passers by, and position myself. Finally it came up in front of me and away went the snaps. One final weird thing, grebes eat large amounts of their own feathers and no one knows why. they even feed feathers to the chicks. Weird.
