milky way over st francis
Milk Way over the St. Francis River.
This weekend was a lovely time spent at Sam Baker SP, right on the edge of the oldest mountain range in MO, the St Francis mountains. I was planning to go shoot the sky since there was some crazy heat lightning happening and I was tired. I decided too anyway. I walked down to the boat ramp in hopes of getting a big sky intersecting the river and I got that, plus a little extra. On the gravel bar was a couple of trucks and trailers. A few minutes later I noticed light shining up the river...giggers...This is also a rather old time Ozark pastime. I didnt get to shoot the sky too much as they came up the river and eventually pulled the boats out, circled around each other and started a fire and cooking the fish, right behind me, while they left all the lights of the boats on. At first I was annoyed but then I thought, this river is as much theirs as it is mine, it just wasnt in my cards to shoot the sky tonight. I will say Im not too bummed though, they lit the river banks way better then my flash light would have.
