Binnenhof, The Hague, 20180813
This place is called Binnenhof in The Hague city center and it is the heart of Dutch politics.
The tall building behind the fountain is called De Ridderzaal (Knight's hall). On the 3rd Tuesday of September, Prinsjesdag (little prince day), the King of the nation cruises the streets of The Hague in de Gouden Koets (golden coach) from his palace to De Ridderzaal. Lots of people on the route, lots of military, it's a big event. Click the link to a video below. In the Ridderzaal, he performs de Troonrede (speech from the throne). It's a review of what happened the past year and he speaks out the plans for the new year. Everyone from Dutch national politics is there and everyone dresses up. It's like the Oscars of Dutch politics and it's live on TV.
This place is really old, it was build in the 13th century and today it is in bad shape but everything will be renovated in 2020. For five years, everyone will move to another part of the city and this place will be totally renovated. Costs between €500M-€600M!
