Hjalmar Christensen and Fredrikke Sophie Elster Christensen, ca. 1910-1925
Description: The writer Hjalmar Christensen (1869-1925) and his mother Fredrikke Sophie Elster Christensen (1838-1927). Hjalmar Christensen's father was Michael Sundt Tuchsen Christensen (1827-1895).
Hjalmar Christensen wrote novels, plays, essays and works of literary history. He was one of the best researchers, cultural critics, journalists and writers of his time.
Christensen lived in Oslo, but often visited his home town Førde. From 1916 onwards he partly lived in Førde. In the autumn of 1925 he fell ill whilst travelling between Førde and Oslo. He was hopitalized in Bergen and died of pneumonia on the 29th of December. Christensen is buried in Førde.
