Up for air
Laticauda colubrina. Apo Island, Philippines.
The first I knew about this snake was when it's head appeared literally an inch from my face! I was a tad startled. It eyeballed me for a second then swam up to the surface for a gulp of air. I fired off this shot as a kind of reflex action. I didn't have time to fuss over the strobe or camera settings, so it's a pretty rough photo. Later back on the banga the guide (he's the one with the dark fins) said it gave me a thorough once over, and was sticking it's head in the nooks and crannys of my BCD! I was totally oblivious. I guess it accounted for why he was tapping his tank!
