double happiness flowers
Still life, painted with light.
Each lantern was individually lit from behind with a snooted mini maglite and recorded on a separate exposure. The stems were also lit separately.
I shot this at 200mm, with the camera level just slightly above the level of the table. I wanted a compressed perspective to make the the image appear more two-dimensional, with nearly parallel stems. I needed to have precise control over the depth of field, so each frame was shot sharp - at f/16. At post-processing, the lanterns were grouped by distance and I progressively dimmed/blurred receeding groups to give a sense of depth.
70 layers later, I'm tired.
