Indian Peafowl

Indian Peafowl, Sri Lanka. I photographed this displaying Indian Peafowl at Bundala, southern Sri Lanka. Despite being capable of flight, their feathers must be such a burden, and it's a wonder they survive when predators such as Leopards, Crested Hawk Eagles, etc are around. Having seen so many of these birds in captivity in posh homes and parks in Britain, it's easy to become desensitised to their stunning plumage. To see these birds in their natural environment was amazing.
