Virginia Scottish Highland Games and Festival
Set in the expanse of a country field in Northern Virginia with a backdrop of rolling green mountains, for one weekend every year time flips back and we travel across the Atlantic to Scotland. Here at the annual Virginia Highland Games and Festival, friendly challenges of the Sheaf Toss, Braemar Stone Toss and the "Widow Maker" are honored in tradition of Scottish heritage. Clans from East Coast America, Nova Scotia Canada, Scotland, and England are represented proudly while rescue animals are showcased and children play traditional Celtic games. Silver swords clash under the upbeat rhythm of Highland music from all eras of time drawing people out of their seats to kick up dirt in the isles. Even those who are not of Scottish decent and, dare I say, are from the nearby island of their rival Ireland, are welcome here.
