I recently visited my brother who had just relocated to the Northern California coast. The Point Arena Lighthouse was one of the sights I wanted to see and we were treated to an absolutely perfect day. The blue skies were an incredible contrast to the stark white of the lighthouse. And just as delightful, the wildlflowers blooming on the cliffs caught my attention. The rock formations that jut out into the ocean at this point were quite interesting as well.
The San Andreas earthquake fault line runs close to this point and the 1906 earthquake was responsible for the devastatoin of the original lighthouse which was built in 1870. New construction was completed and the lighthouse was back in operation in 1908. The lighthouse stands 115 feet tall.
