Monarda clinopodia - white bergamot

I found this species in two locations, one on each side of the river. In Maryland it formed a large clump in a partially shady spot not far from the water, but in Virginia the plant was significantly smaller and further inland, in a good quality wooded area that I wouldn't have imagined had enough sunlight for this sort of flower. If you take one of the leaves and tear it, the aroma of Earl Grey tea is unmistakable, although, apparently, the tea is actually flavored with the Bergamot orange (Citrus bergamia) which is similarly aromatic, but unrelated.
