We celebrated Earth Day with a full day of community festivities, including kids activities, a volunteer recognition ceremony for our dedicated Spring Cutback volunteers, and an art performance by Alison Knowles in which the artist mixed a giant salad and served it to the crowd.
Earth Day is the culmination of High Line Spring Cutback, our biggest horticultural task of the year. During the past six weeks High Line Gardeners and more than 300 volunteers worked to trim back more than 100,000 plants on the High Line to prepare the park for new spring growth. With one full mile of plantings, Spring Cutback took more than 1,500 man hours to complete this year.
