Alki Point Lighthouse Sunset
After driving around a little yesterday and noticing the wispy clouds in the sky, I figured the sunset was going to be "Epic!" I texted several friends to see if they wanted to meet up for sunset and was able to meet up with photographer extraordinaire Dene: www.flickr.com/photos/denemiles/ She is a real trooper as she was sick and braved the biting wind last night!
I have waited for two years to get this shot! I even purchased a special tripod last year that wraps onto the chain link fence. The wind was buffeting the camera so I stood next to it and used my hood from my jacket to keep it from moving! The sunset was extremely intense and I had to dial back the saturation a bit from the HDR merging process.
This is three exposures (-2,0,+2) merged and tonemapped in Photomatix. I then had to straighten the crop and do a perspective crop of the tower, hence slight distortion. I then did some selective "Dodging and Burning" and selective desaturation of the colors in the sky. I moved to lightroom to adjust contrast and some noise removal.
Thank you for your views, comments and faves. I appreciate them. Looks like we are about to head into a ten day stretch of showery weather here in the Pacific Northwest-typical for October!
