Abandoned House Sunset HDR
Wow! Highest Position Explore #5 July 5, 2011 Thank You!
I hope everyone had a great July 4th weekend. Here is a shot from a couple of weeks ago when Matt www.flickr.com/photos/37126998@N08/ and I went driving around central Washington. This is definitely an area worth exploring some more as there are the coulees(canyons) and the irrigated farm land that stretches for miles. The central part of Washington has a different feel to it than the undulations of the Palouse region.
I was extremely torn on the processing of this image. It was hard controlling the vibrant colors that formed in the sky as the sun went down. I love colorful sunsets, but really wanted to do this as a B&W. The problem here was you would not have been able to experience the color that we witnessed that night, which was intense.
This is a combination of three exposures (-2,0,+2) merged and tonemapped in Photomatix. I then cropped and removed a bunch of dust spots, as I was a little lazy by not cleaning the lens! I also burned a lot of the shadows to darken up the foreground bushes. I then moved to Lightroom and desaturated color overall, and then desaturated specific colors. I also sharpened and applied some noise reduction.
