Tales of Brave Ulysses 9
I had time to kill before the test, some of my least favorite time. I wandered around campus corner, camera in hand, expectations low. I saw this guy up ahead of me, clearly lost and getting a bit agitated. I could relate. He doubled back and passed me, I turned and followed. He started pacing a little and I thought for a moment he might yell "Maggie!" like that Scottish guy from Mike Leigh's Naked. Instead he approached me and told me where he wanted to go. I started to point and he said No. He'd get lost again and needed a guide. As we walked, he told me he'd spent the day cutting down trees. I felt the film pulling me into it again and almost asked him what it was like to be a pecuniary participant in deforestation. I just asked him what it was like. Hard work. Which is why he just wanted to get to where he was going so he could relax. We arrived and before he reached the door I asked if I could take his picture, raising the camera I was still holding. Without a word, and seemingly without thought, he made a small adjustment to his bandanna and stood still for a moment. I thanked him and wished him fun night.
