Fred and Friends
Fred and Friends
September 24, 2011 – January 14, 2012

Fred and Friends is an exhibition created as part of the museum’s celebration of Frederic Remington’s 150th birthday. We asked artists to create an original work that is inspired by a Remington work in our collection. Each artist asked to participate has an established interest in Remington’s work. The art they created for this exhibit shows the results of their close attention to Remington’s art in general and specifically one work of their choice. Almost all of the Remington art that inspired these works is on view in the museum’s Newell Galleries.
Collectively, the artists have created a tribute to Remington that allows the museum’s visitors to see his work through their diverse perspectives. The artists are diverse in their geography, living across the country and in Canada. Their styles, media and techniques differ, as do their ages and careers. They demonstrate that Remington’s art is very much relevant to contemporary artists. We are grateful for their enthusiasm, their talent and their generosity.
