Called to Serve

I had the opportunity to photograph a LDS Missionary only a few days before he leaves for two years. I wanted to get away from the Standard Missionary picture (Hello Olan Mills!), and try something different and unique.

This shot was taken close to sunset, the Oquirrh Mountain Temple sits in the Background. I hope as this Missionary leaves for two years that I have captured a part of him that means something to his family.

Canon 24-70 2.8L @ 51mm

2 Canon 430exii's fired remotely by canon STE2. I wanted to preserve the natural light, the sun was setting camera left. I wanted the Shadows on his face to math the shadows on the grass and on the spire of the temple in the background.

Strobe Camera left was set to -2 and almost directly beside me. Strobe camera right was 45 degrees from me, flash set at - 1/3. Flash was shot ettl.

I am pleased with the results here, I didn't want the subject to "jump" out and be fully lit as much as I wanted the light to seem natural, and I think I achieved that.
