Hebden Bridge, 1962.
A Kodachrome slide from the Norwich Hoard, labelled "River Hebden, Hebden Bridge 1962". I've had a look on Google Maps and this appears to be the main bridge of the town, carrying the A646 road. The road below, where the car is, is Old Gate. The tall building on the right has gone and, on "Street View" I can't see any sign of the two distant chimneys ...although the view is obscured by recently grown trees. No gaslights of course, but the most grievous loss to me is of the soot discolouration that once gave the north of England such a distinctive look, even in places like Hebden Bridge, which were far from the main industrial conurbations. Enjoyable "Signals Ahead" sign on the left.
