Remember Playbuses? Hand-in-hand with Adventure Playgrounds they represented an attempt to regulate the way in which children play which, being interpreted, is an attempt to condition the way in which children ...sorry, kids... grow up and understand the world. Fortunately it didn't last and the mostly female leftist Playgroup Leaders had to look for employment in council-funded street theatre groups, community arts projects and performance and dance workshops.

The former Bristol Omnibus Co. no. 7159 is seen in Canon's Road, among the tobacco bonds, derelict railway land and quayside sheds of the old Canon's Marsh area of Bristol on Saturday 19th May 1979. I've never been there since it was "regenerated" some twenty years ago. It was early days with my Chinon CM3 and I was getting in some practice before taking it with me to Scotland the following month. I have just resumed using it after an eight-year flirtation with digital. What was I thinking? The vehicle, which had been withdrawn from the Bristol fleet the previous August, has not been fully repainted and bears an interim livery of jolly stick-on circles.
