Lost Bristol cinemas ...the Vandyck.

A 1,200-seater designed by W. H. Watkins, opened 5th November 1926. In my day one of the ABC chain which included the Whiteladies, the Kings and the Rex. To bingo, June 1973. Now a ...well, I'm not sure what exactly. It seems to be a species of pub ...with its capacious interior a discotèque perhaps.

I thought it was a former Picc. line station when viewed in thumbnail!

I see what you mean. It's the art deco look.

Had many a great time there as a kid on Saturday mornings, Flash Gordon etc. Saw "Reach For The Sky" in 1956 on my 9th birthday, the old Douglas Bader classic starring Kenneth More.
      Its a Weatherspoons pub now.

Saturday morning ABC Minors.Who can forget the song?

"We are the boys and girls well known as Minors of the ABC
And every Saturday we line up to see the films we like & shout with glee
We love to laugh & have a singsong such a happy crowd are we
We’re all pals together we're minors of the ABC"
(If only I could remember useful things, not 45 year old songs)

And best of all after the show we could catch a train for what must have been one of tthe shortest train journeys possible. Fishponds to Staple Hill

It's actually a rather good, family friendly, and well-preserved Wetherspoons pub/restaurant on the inside with no sign of a discotheque.
