Crown & Dove

The Crown & Dove hotel in Rupert Street closed on Tuesday 20th August 1974. Two days later lorries are parked outside removing the stock and fittings. Of this group of buildings by W. B. Gingell, those beyond the pub survive. The Crown & Dove went up in 1887. Gingell, solely or with his partner T. R. Lysaght, designed many of Bristol's best-known 19th century buildings. Many have been demolished. He loved to juxtapose red bricks or terracotta with yellow bricks. I suspect he may have been guilty of the Queen's Head pub at the top of Royate Hill. Can anyone confirm?
