14 of 100 Strangers: Trading yarns, and conspiracy theories, in a bluebell wood
I met Sean Sherwin when we were both strolling around the bluebell wood at Derren, Knockvicar, near Boyle in County Roscommon. We said hallo and got to talking, initially about the beauty of the place. I told him about the 100 Strangers project and I took his picture. I offered to send him a copy and when he gave me his name I then recognised him as a former TD (Member of Parliament) for a Dublin constituency. It transpired we were both born in County Roscommon, and also that we knew many people in common. As a result we stood there for the best part of an hour trading yarns, and the odd conspiracy theory too, about people we both knew.
Sean is no longer an active politician, but for proving that there is life after politics, and the public service, and for being one of the most personable and pleasant people I have met for a very long time he becomes number 14 in my 100 Strangers group.
