Munich, Viktualien Market
The Viktualienmarkt is a daily food market, except Sundays & the square in the centre of Munich, has been a pedestrian zone since November 1975 also a great meeting point for a weißbier, a glass of vine, prosecco or champagne, a small snack from oysters to the typical weißwurst, beer garden & gourmet shopping or a place to chill.
Original a farmers’ market developed over decades to a popular market for gourmets, the abundant selection, variety & exclusiveness of the products offered contribute to the market’s out of the ordinary flair.
On an area covering 22.000 square meters 140 food stalls & shops offer vegetables, mushrooms, exotic fruits from the region & all over the world, meats, games & poultry, spices, herbs & honey, cheese, fish & seafood, juices, flowers, etc.
Nowhere else in Munich can you find a greater assortment of fresh food & delicacies.
Unfortunately in the last decade quite a few food stalls disappeared & were replaced by souvenir stands for the many tourists visiting the market every day, however, still one of the my preferred markets in Germany.
