Old Friends Chatting at Village Coffeehouse
Remember Don Camillo of Giovanni Guareschi, a famous Italian journalist, cartoonist and humorist? He is the fictional big, hot-headed priest of a small village in the Po river valley in northern Italy, in the early postwar period. His stories with the fictional mayor Peppone (Giuseppe Bottazzi) are great fun. A series of black-and-white films were made in French-Italian co-productions and simultaneously released in both languages. Don Camillo was played by French actor Fernandel.
These two old friends chatting at Altinoluk village near Aegean sea close to Dardanelles and Gallipoli, at agora coffeehouse under the plane tree of centuries old, remind me the cosy atmosphere of Giovanni Guareschi's books.
