Chapungu Sculptures from Chapungu Sculpture Park in Harare, Zimbabwe are currently on exhibition at Denver Botanic Gardens, if you are in Denver Go!. Fifty-seven stone works are on display and each tells a story deeply rooted in the culture, history and traditions of the Shona in Zimbabwe.

Many of the sculptures speak to present day social realities of AIDS and poverty. This one, Woman of Wisdom by Nicholas Mukomberanwa, I believe expresses both the power and authority that women have as counselors and mentors in social and moral issues within the Shona community.

beautiful image - such a vibrant feel to it! I remember seeing an African sculpture exhibit there back in the summer of 2004 (the artwork was quite similar to this) and it was quite fascinating and beautiful to see! wonderful shot!

@Omer2Cute, I don't have a collection of Harare pics. Sadly I have not been to Zimbabwe, this photo was taken in Denver, CO of a traveling art exhibit.
