DKIST & Pan-STARRS - Science City, Maui
Just finished the spring 2016 programmatic flora and fauna surveys at Science City on the summit of Haleakala.
DKIST, on the left, is nearing completion on the outside. The inside is still sparse and first light is still a couple years off (2018). When complete this observatory will be used to study the sun.
Pan-STARRS (no relation), the two smaller domes on the right, are used to scan the sky for Earth crossing asteroids that could destroy civilization, and other esoteric pursuits. Pan-STARRS houses the world's largest digital cameras (1400 megapixels).
