Wolves of Yellowstone

These may be my weakest photos from technical standpoint..(lenses were not up to task -560mm) but the wolves were fabulous. Having only each other to depend upon at 30•below requires lots of snuggling for warmth as well as grooming each other.

The Hayden Pack broke off from the Mollies establishing a new group but without territory of their own, they are seen in many parts of the park, While other packs are more territorially stable.

The re-introduction has fierce advocates and naysayers, rangers report that "I'm getting a call from a rancher, yelling at me because the wolves are out and the killed some sheep," "The next phone call is from an animal rights person saying, 'You bastard! Burn in Hell, murderer of babies!' Then the next call is another rancher." Look on NOVA, the Nature channel for a new updateprogram on the Hayden pack, they are thriving! Other wolves think the Hayden Valley is just too damn tough, too cold. GEOTAG view full size.
