Bramall Lane - mid 1970s

    Newer Older

The old and the new collide at Bramall Lane in the seventies. Nice shot showing the old cricket pavilion as the new South Stand is constructed.

Thanks for your comment, that's a great article you wrote. Going way back to 1854 when the Sheffield United Cricket Club were founded are there any records as to who was on the committee?

I believe that Prest & Crestwick who founded Sheffield FC in 1857 were members of Sheffield CC and as such they may have been involved in the formation of SUCC prior to the events of 1857.

William Prest was certainly at early meetings that secured the lease of the Bramall Lane Site.
I suggest you try to get hold of a copy of 'Before and After Bramall Lane' by Keith Farnsworth published in 1988 - this covers anything you could really want to know about the formation of SUCC and Bramall Lane

Wow, now that's a VERY interesting photograph!!!!! It's a shame that the pavilion had to go. I wonder if the players continued to change there whilst the stand was being built, then walking onto the pitch via a tunnel in the new stand!

No, the pavilion was solely used for cricket- there were different facilities for football.
