FLOODED VILLAGES: Kan Par Ni village lies next to an artificial lake. When Shwe Kyin dam finished in 2009, people from seven villages were displaced. Most of the displaced people in Kyauk Kyi have fled from conflict, but because government can seize abandoned land and sell it to companies moving into a now conflict free zone, this is giving an increasing number of IDPs no place to return. Companies within rubber and palm oil plantations or the mining sector are among the main actors.
