Frederick Douglass Bible

The Metropolitan A.M.E. Church of Washington, DC, presented this now well-worn King James Bible to the author, veteran abolitionist, and former slave Frederick Douglass in 1889. The gift, an Oxford edition published the same year, marked Douglass's departure to Haiti, where he served for two years as United States resident minister and consul-general.
