Torre de Belém, Lisbon, Portugal
Torre de Belém is a military fortification on river Tagus. It was built on a small island some distance from the shore but is now on the shore itself, following changes in the river's bed.
The first version of the tower was finished in 1519, and it has undergone multiple modifications and renovations throughout its life.
It is, alongside the nearby monastery of Belén, a UNESCO world heritage site.
