The Nevis- NZ's Highest Public Road

Merino Sheep licking salt blocks overlooking Lake Dunstan from the Carrick Range.

This is a stunning scenic 70km gravel road that winds through a remote tussock covered high country valley, the road follows the Nevis River and includes more than 30 ford crossings. The scenery & views are spectacular, this is a highly recommended route but only in the right weather conditions.

If you are thinking of travelling this road, check the Flickr Album that this photo belongs to see more photos of the journey and also find the blog posts for the Nokomai 4WD trip which will explain details & have photos of the southern end of the road.
