Walt Murphy, in the gray camo CJ-6 and Commander Mike Miller, USN in the Navy blue CJ-6 .
The Aircraft are both 1968 Nanchang CJ-6A's. Our aircraft are examples of the 1st indigenous Chinese aircraft design , the CJ-6 was designed & built as a trainer for the Peoples Liberation Army Air Force in 1962 and this type is still in production in China for that purpose today. My aircraft has the stock Housai 285 HP Chinese radial engine and Mike's has been modified by adding a Russian M-14P radial engine of 360 HP.
Mike is currently active duty with the US Navy @ NAS Fallon and I fly mine for Search & Rescue as a volunteer for the Washoe County Sheriff's Air Squadron in Reno, NV . ( www.nvairsearch.org/)
Both pictures were taken near Reno this spring, the over water shot was taken at Lake Lahontan (between Fallon and Reno, NV).
