3d pan white

moss rocks

Another photo from Joshua Tree. I like the lines in this, and the moss gives some interest. The dynamic range was very difficult to work with, and it required much more time in post-process than I usually spend. I have worked on this shot, put it away, and come back to it several times.

Camera Info:

Camera: Nikon D700

Lens: Nikon 16-35mm

Focal Length: 16mm

Aperture: f/22

Exposure: 0.1 seconds (1/10)

White Balance: manual

ISO: 200

Tripod, 3 step graduated ND filter, hand held.

Post Processing:

Unsharp Mask at 40%, 0.5 and I dodged and burned the sky and ground. The exposure was very uneven because I didn't have the proper filter with me. I had also bracketed several shots of this composition due to the dynamic range being totally wild. There was very little mid-range on the histogram....it was all shadows and highlights. I added a warming filter as well.
