Buckbeak | by Flint-Hill
Back to photostream

Buckbeak is a hybrid layer and a retiree from a local egg farm. Somebody -- probably a poultry distributor -- clipped her beak when she was a young pullet. Usually these girls grow their beaks back, but if it was clipped too far back, they can't. Some "overclipped" chickens have trouble eating, but Buckbeak doesn't. She's a big, strong girl.

No fences and beak clips for Buckbeak these days. She wanders over a couple of acres.

She still has a look in her eyes. Hard times.
