Scimitar! | by ƒliçkrwåy

Considering there are just three aircraft left in existence, it is perhaps surprising one of these 50s naval aircraft can be found in upstate New York.

The Fleet Air Arm Museum found they had a spare Supermarine Scimitar and arranged an exchange with the U.S. for a F-4S Phantom, and as a result XD220 was displayed aboard the USS Intrepid in NYC.

Later, the Intrepid museum got a makeover and some exhibits were replaced by others, predominantly the Space Shuttle Enterprise. So, in April 2012, the Scimitar was taken by barge up to the Empire State Aerosciences Museum in Schenectady, near Albany NY. They also received a Douglas Skynight and a MiG-15.

By a quirk of fate, the FAAM's F-4S has moved on too - to East Fortune south of Edinburgh.
