History Repeating | Waterloo Bridge
I recently discovered that this fairly nondescript bus stop at the south end of Waterloo Bridge, which I've walked past hundreds of times, has a significant place in history.
This was the location of the iconic 'poison umbrella' assassination of the Bulgarian dissident Georgi Markov back in 1978. It reminded me of the recent attempted assassination of Sergei and Yulia Skripal in Amesbury. Plus ça change ...
It also made me wonder how many other everyday locations we walk past without paying attention are similarly laced with historical significance.
