it's an old shutter speed trick but had to try it - really getting into experimenting with slow shutterspeeds now - some night shots to be uploaded soon! thanks for positive comments guys. This was taken in the subway in Paris.

I have just started experimenting with slow shutter speeds. I took this picture, after a great night at Caribana 2010 Parade in Toronto.

That is a superb shot. I'm a n00b and I just got my first ever DSLR today. Can you please explain a little who such an image can be achieved? By that I mean what kind of shutter speed, iso and aperture? And how do you get your subject in focus with the background in motion? Or does that come by it's self? Did you use a tripod? Sorry for bombarding you with questions but I'm just curious :) Thanks!

I love it but also wonder how you got the girl so still and in focus. Did she just stand very still?

This is great. Now I'm motivated to play around with the low shutter speeds.
