Perkins OKR 1969 & 2012

Where once there was a tobacconist's, Perkins dry cleaners and the Capitol Chinese restaurant in the Old Kent Road is now occupied by a bus shelter, cash machines and parking for Tesco. If only the supermarket could provide the wonderful chicken soup and chicken curry I used to have in the Capitol after a Friday or Saturday night bevvy or three. If only!

Over a hundred years before the top photo this Victorian built terrace was originally known as Chester Place and located immediately east of the turnpike between the "Dun Cow" and the "Green Man" on the Old Kent Road. The turnpike was a toll-gate to raise money to build, re-build or maintain roads.
