Moon Halo and Parhelia

Máninn í úlfakreppu.

Lucky me, got this halo around the moon saturday evening, absolutely wonderful.

I also believe there's a very faint "tangent arc" on top. But not sure. It appears when the image is manupulated in Photoshop.

See some info here and here!

In Icelandic the parhelia is called "aukasólir" or "Additional Suns", "Mock Suns" or "hjásólir" meaning "sidesuns" or "by-suns". The one to the left is called "wolf", and the one to right is "gíll" (means also wolf). There's a saying in Iceland that goes like "It predicts no good, unless the gíll [the wolf or the parhelia to the right] is followed by the second wolf [..the parhelia to the left].

Af Vísindavefnum:

Í Snorra-Eddu, 12. kafla Gylfaginningar, segir svo frá úlfakreppu sólar:

Þá mælti Gangleri: "Skjótt ferr sólin ok nær svá sem hún sé hrædd, ok eigi myndi hon þá meir hvata göngunni, at hon hræddist bana sinn."

Þá svarar Hárr: "Eigi er þat undarligt, at hon fari ákafliga. Nær gengr sá, er hana sækir, ok engan útveg á hon nema renna undan."

Þá mælti Gangleri: "Hverr er sá, er henni gerir þann ómaka"

Hárr segir: "Þat eru tveir úlfar, ok heitir sá, er eftir henni ferr, Skoll [Sköll]. Hann hræðist hon, ok hann mun taka hana. En sá heitir Hati Hróðvitnisson, er fyrir henni hleypr, ok vill hann taka tunglit, ok svá mun verða."

As a nightshot, it's better to view it on a black background.
