The passage des Princes is a walkway in Paris located in the Second District , connecting on 5, boulevard des Italiens , in the northwest, at 97 rue de Richelieu , to the east. It was opened in 1860 under the name Passage Mires .
Despite the transformation of Paris made by the Baron Haussmann , which gave away many passages, a decree of 3 September 1860 authorized the opening of this passage. It was the last walkway built in Paris at the time of Haussmann.
Almost all of the walkways is located on the right bank of the Seine , within the limits of Paris before its extension in 1860 , mainly near the Grands Boulevards
Most of the walkways were built in the first half of the nineteenth century to house a wealthy clientele from the weather and usually offer a range of shopping venues. Paris will have up to 150 arcades in 1850 and will export the model to several other cities in France and abroad in the late nineteenth century
The works of Haussmann , which open areas by drilling large avenues, and competition from department stores lead to the disappearance of most of the passages.
