the new "kulturhus" in hamar, architects tegnestuen vandkunsten, completed march 2014,
situated in the small town of hamar an hours ride north of oslo the kulturhus has a massive impact not only on the local cultural life but also on the cityscape
conceived as a highly transparent building bordering the main square of the town the kulturhus is for everyday use
the facilitees included apart from the theater accomodating 500 persons are cinemas, a public library, rehearsal rooms etc.
the facades are kept simple boosting only two materials; glass and zink in a dark preweathered finish
interiors are rough with the concrete surfaces left exposed, visible installations and the suspended sculptural staircases connecting the main areas of this 15000 m2 complex
